I saw Star Trek the movie, this weekend w/ my DH. We are admittedly shameless Star Trek fans...even Trekkies...as well as being Star Wars fans. We have intellectual discussions about Star Trek, and all the different anomalies ( msp? ) and captains, and officers. It made me teary eyed to watch this movie, and see how much thought and detail went into making this different but still the same. I was very impressed w/ the actors who tried to stay true to character, but still made it their own. I plan to own that movie along w/ all the rest...which are still VHS, lol, but I intend to remedy that once my bills are paid, even if I only can buy one a month...
Star Trek, to me, is pure genius. Gene Roddenberry was ahead of his time, and ahead of mine..definitely...I was always interested in watching any Star Trek episode that came on, and was especially thrilled when Star Trek Generations started. The rest, Deep Space 9, and Voyager didn't catch my attention as much, until Enterprise came out, which chronicled Captain Archer's adventures, which was Pre Kirk. I enjoyed Scott Bakula's portrayal of Captain Archer very much, and grew to love the series, as well as my DH who watches every day, and can tell me all about it, when I have questions. My favorite characters though, are Tripp, and Tepal. Tripp is an easy going Laid Back Engineer, who is very good at taking care of his Captain, as well as ms. Vulcan lady...Tepal..who is "fascinating" to me. I think if I were able to attend a Star Trek convention, I would go as a Vulcan...yes...I would, pointy ears and all. Simply because I am such an emotional person, it would be "enjoyable" to be of that composure, to see how many people I could trick into believing I was emotionless, and brilliant!
I cry when each main character dies, is written off, or has an existential crisis...Data, Spock, Tripp, Kirk, Uhura, and even Wesley...on Generations. Picard, not so much...Troy, Riker, Krusher, Worf...yea...sigh...love those Trekkians...:) I enjoy finding the details in the movies even more than I do in the series'.
If you haven't seen the new movie...see it. It's worth it. Don't buy the movie popcorn though...Jeez that has gotten expensive!!!
Live Long and Prosper!

My first ex-wife is a huge Trekkie. I am also a fan, but not a fanatic, like her. Spock is her favorite character, and she had the pointy ears, too. She even got me to go to a Trek convention once. George Takei (Sulu) was the featured speaker. He has the most annoying laugh!
I discussed the new movie with her and her reaction was that Spock would NEVER make-out while on-duty like he did with Uhura. My thought on the movie was "Oh, great. Now we have slipped into an alternate time-line... as if there wasn't enough in the regular one to deal with!" I understand the writers will find it easier. They won't have to stick to the original "history" exactly this way (so they got to kill off Amanda). I could go on and on. LOL
